Mision en Peru:

Llegué al Perú el 28 de octubre del año 1960, en la Fiesta de N.S de los Milagros, y el Provincial del Perú (P. Felipe MacGregor SJ) me destinó inmediatamente al Colegio San José en Arequipa. Durante los primeros dos años estaba el P. Manuel Prado de Director del Colegio, y yo el P. Prefecto. Luego fuí nomberado Director del Colegio, y así me quedé hasta terminar mis años en nuestro querido Colegio al final del año escolar 1974. Desde el año 1975 hasta el día de hoy formo parte del equipo de los Jesuitas y laicos en el CENTRO DE ESPIRITUALIDAD IGNACIANO, cuya oficina central está aquí en Lima, pero nuestro trabajo incluye todo el país. Nuestro trabajo incluye todos los elementos de la Espiritualidad de San Ignacio, como, por ejemplo, los Retiros, Talleres, Cursillos, Programas, Jornadas, Publicaciones, "Counselling," etc.

De la pagina web de la Provincial de Chicago :
..."En los 60, la Provincial de Chicago (de los Jesuitas) comenzó a enviar a sus jovenes jesuitas "regentes" despues de sus estudios de Filosofia a apoyar sus obras en el Peru. Se fundó el Colegio Cristo Rey en Tacna, la Parroquia de Juliaca y se construyó el nuevo edificio de la primaria del Colegio San Jose en Arequipa donde Roberto Beckman era el director. Durante ese tiempo la secundaria del colegio dobló su alumnado gracias a un controversial programa de becas escolares exitosamente implementado por el 'Padre Roberto'".

Bob y Jack - hermanos jesuitas:

"Mi hermano de sangre JOHN (Jack), y yo entramos en la Compañía de Jesús en el mismo año, 1943, así que el año pasado los dos celebramos 60 años como Jesuitas o sea, cumplimos un total de 120 años!"
Las siguientes lineas son extractos de la web de la Provincial Jesuita de Chicago donde hacen mención a los hermanos Beckman.:

..."They share everything, their lives are nearly one. This fraternal ideal seems to have been the norm for Bob and Jack Beckman, two brothers growing up together and attending Jesuits schools in Cincinnati in the 1930's and 40's.
"Jack has always been my big brother. He was always older, could always do more, always knew more, could run faster, could hit the ball farther, knew what to do and how to do it, had all the answers, could answer all my questions, and was completely reliable and trustworthy," says Bob of his brother Jack, who is older by two years. "I also felt accepted, respected, and cared for by him, which inspired in me a sense of trust and confidence, of sharing and give-and-take. We had a strong relationship, for which I am eternally grateful."
The Beckman brothers took care of one another, admired one another, and were, above all, close friends. As children they shared nearly everything. As adults, they shared convictions, values, a desire to serve, and a vocation. As life unfolded, it was Bob and Jack's vocations as Jesuits that separated them, assigning Jack in Cincinnati, close to the family, while sending Bob to Peru. In this issue of Partners, family ties in the Jesuits are highlighted, and this story features the Beckmans.
"The refrain of my youth," Bob Beckman recollects, "was, 'the family that plays together and prays together, stays together,' and that was certainly true in our case. We always did both play and pray together. God and prayer, work and study, fun and games, tears and cheers, sharing and caring, responsibility and honesty, were all part and parcel of our daily family life together."
So for these two brothers who had entered the Society within six months of one another, the news that Bob would be leaving for his new mission in Perú was difficult to hear. Bob admits that during his journey to Peru he felt "a deep sense of loneliness, accompanied by the gift of tears." He adds, though, that he also felt "what must have been the grace of God filling me with the desire to follow his call with enthusiasm and eagerness."

Breve reseña de mi vida Jesuita:

Luego de la etapa de magisterio en Arequipa, inicié los estudios de Teología en México, en la Universidad Iberoamericana, obteniendo el título de Licenciatura en Teología. Me ordené de sacerdote en Lima el 18 de junio de 1977.

Trabajos realizados:

• Lima: En la formación de jesuitas: Socio del P. Maestro de Novicios, Formador de Juniores y Estudiantes: 1978-1980; 1982-1984; 1986-1989; 1992-1995; 2002-2003
• Lima:En el servicio de gobierno de los jesuitas: Socio del P. Provincial (Vice Provincial): 1984; 1986-1989; 1992-1995; 2002-2003
• Ayacucho: Superior de la Comunidad y diversos trabajos pastorales: 1989-1992
• Jaén: Rector del Seminario Mayor San Luis Gonzaga; Vicario General y Superior de la Comunidad: 1996-2001
• Ayacucho: A partir del mes de junio, nuevamente Superior de la Comunidad y diversos trabajos pastorales.

Mi mejor recuerdo:

Es haber estado en el Colegio San José el año 1973 que se celebró los 75 años de fundación y el haber sido Tutor de ustedes en 4º de secundaria. Para mí era mi segundo año en etapa de magisterio, ya que el primer año estuve en Chachapoyas, como profesor de Religión en Colegios Nacionales y asesor de grupos juveniles. Ustedes me ayudaron mucho a vivir mi vocación jesuita y seguir formándome para ser sacerdote. Y esto en la vida diaria del Colegio que nos permitió ser amigos y crecer en esta amistad que se ha ido profundizando a lo largo de tantos años. Gracias a todos.
